Emma Tysinger began with a camera in Vermont, photographing her backyard and family trips. She is now based in Paris, with a practice that moves between travel, hospitality, street photography, architecture and interiors. Her photographs pay attention to how places are lived in: a café table, a boat near the shore, the small decisions that turn a landscape into a day out.

Her summer work follows the coast through France, Greece and Croatia, with stops at striped awnings, harbour boats and beaches arranged beneath enormous cliffs. Hawaii offers palms and long shadows. In Paris, warm windows and wet pavements carry the evening; elsewhere, a red scooter or a small classic car gives a street its point of colour. Buildings are treated as places to spend time, rather than objects to pass.

Winter changes the scale. Chairlifts draw thin lines across white slopes, cable cars interrupt the trees and a chalet window gives the weather a frame of its own. The people remain small, but their presence matters. A line of skis outside a mountain hut belongs to the same story as a row of empty terrace chairs: someone has found a good place to stop.

Across the collection, Emma moves between broad views and close, everyday details. Rough stone sits beside clear water; orderly balconies meet the loose shape of a palm. When not behind the camera, she enjoys skiing, playing the piano, and exploring new neighbourhoods. Her photographs for The Good Season keep something of that curiosity on the wall, in every season.

“I photograph the places people return to: the light, the details, and the feeling of being somewhere.”
