Frieze

Every October, Frieze transforms Regent's Park into a sprawling, temporary museum. It is loud, vibrant, and unapologetically commercial—the cornerstone of London's autumn art season and a magnet for the international creative class.

A field guide

What it actually feels like.

01
The origin

From magazine to mega-fair

Frieze began as a magazine founded by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover in 1991. They launched the fair in 2003, leveraging their editorial influence to create an event that felt fresher and more provocative than the established order. It succeeded entirely.

02
The ecosystem

Frieze Week

The fair's gravity is so strong it pulls the rest of the city with it. "Frieze Week" sees every major museum, gallery, and auction house in London schedule their most important openings and sales to coincide with the influx of international collectors.
