Old Money Summer is a calendar of places where the summer was settled long ago: the South Fork of Long Island, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on the Riviera and Sotogrande on the coast of Andalusia.
Atlantic beaches and Mediterranean coves, marinas and golf courses, polo in the afternoon and dinner outside. The dress is linen. The names are not mentioned.
The places
The Hamptons: the villages of the South Fork and the beaches from Southampton to Montauk, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Cap Ferrat: the quiet peninsula between Nice and Monaco, its villas, its coastal path and its coves. Sotogrande: polo, golf and the marina near Gibraltar, with the polo tournament through July and August.
When to go
June to August. June for the quiet weeks before the crowd; July and August for the season itself, the polo at Sotogrande and the Hamptons at full strength.
