When the 11th Duke of Richmond wanted to bring racing back to Goodwood in the early 90s, he lacked the permits for the main circuit. His solution was to host a hillclimb on the estate's internal roads. It is now arguably the most important car event on the planet.
Plausible deniability
Goodwood manages a very specific trick: it hosts 150,000 people but still feels like a private invitation. It is chaotic, loud, dusty, and entirely devoid of the corporate sterility that plagues modern motorsport.

Typically in July. The 2026 event takes place from July 9 to July 12.
Is it the same as the Goodwood Revival?
No. The Revival is held in September at the Goodwood Motor Circuit and strictly requires period dress. The Festival of Speed is held on the estate grounds and covers all eras of motorsport.
