Royal Ascot
Five days of high stakes and high fashion in Berkshire. Founded by Queen Anne in 1711, Royal Ascot is Britain's most valuable race meeting, defined as much by its rigid sartorial rules as by the thoroughbreds on the track.

What it actually feels like.
A strict hierarchy of access
Ascot operates on a tiered system. The Royal Enclosure is the inner sanctum, requiring sponsorship from an existing member to attend. Beyond that, the Queen Anne Enclosure offers excellent views with slightly more relaxed (though still formal) rules, while the Village and Windsor enclosures take on a more festive atmosphere.
Sartorial enforcement
Nowhere else in the world publishes a style guide quite like Ascot. For the Royal Enclosure, rules dictate everything from the width of a hat's base (minimum 4 inches) to the prohibition of novelty waistcoats. It is an annual masterclass in adhering to the brief.
Hats, horsepower, and inherited confidence.
