From the house.
A palm is a vertical line in a horizontal place, which is why it photographs so well. In Two Palms, No Plans, Emma Tysinger lets two trunks lean into an enormous blue sky above a Hawaiian beach, the people on the sand reduced to small marks. The Long Hawaiian Evening is Hawaii later in the day: the palms dark against a softly lit sky, their shadows stretched across the lawn.
Jordan Cahill’s Palm Avenue is a street, not a beach. A road dips between white buildings, palms leaning in from either side, towards a rugged hillside. In The Green-Striped Address palm fronds frame a market stall in Nice, beneath a green and white awning.
Choosing your photograph.
All four are portrait, which is the shape of the subject. That makes them natural choices for a hallway, the end of a corridor or the narrow wall beside a window. Palm Avenue has the longest perspective and works as a focal point at the end of a hall.
For a light living room, Two Palms, No Plans brings pale blue and sand; The Long Hawaiian Evening brings olive green and warm yellow. Each is printed to order on 308gsm Hahnemühle Photo Rag and offered unframed or in a black, white or wood frame.
