David Szabo
David Szabo photographs alpine life with an architect's eye: classic cars, winter streets and the light that gives a place its character.
The photographer’s workFrom the house.
Lift lines are part engineering, part anticipation. Emma Tysinger photographs chairs against snow, coloured cabins over forest and the architecture of the mountain station: a red cable car crossing pale peaks in The Red Way Up, small gondola cabins moving through snow-heavy trees in The Red Way Through and A Small Yellow Journey, a single chair against an almost empty sky in The Chair Above. David Szabó’s black and white chair lift photograph, Up in the Air, adds another view of the climb.
Choosing your photograph.
Portrait compositions emphasise the lift line and the distance above the trees. Wider valley views give the cabin a smaller part of a larger landscape. Choose between a strong block of colour and a more restrained photograph before comparing size and frame.
