From the house.

A still life is a portrait of what somebody left behind. David Szabo finds two wooden tennis rackets leaning on the chrome bumper of a green classic car, and a straw hat with a red ribbon behind the rear window of a silver Fiat. Emma Tysinger photographs a bouquet laid on the bonnet of a pale Volkswagen Beetle, and an afternoon by the pool: cards on a striped towel, a glass of pink wine and a dish of strawberries.

Jordan Cahill’s two tennis photographs take the idea onto the court. Second Serve sets two balls on the chalk line in yellow and green; Baseline is the same court in black and white, where the line and the balls become pure structure.

Choosing your photograph.

Still lifes read best close up, so they suit the places you stand or sit: a kitchen wall, a study, the corner where drinks are poured. A Hand in the Sun holds its colour at a small size.

Several pair naturally: Second Serve with Baseline, or Second Service with either. Each photograph is printed to order on 308gsm Hahnemühle Photo Rag, unframed or in a black, white or wood frame.
