How to bring a euro summer into the house: the palette of terracotta, Riviera blue and stripes, and which photographs suit the living room, kitchen, hallway and bedroom.

Euro summer at home is not a theme. It is a few things done with restraint: a palette taken from the south of Europe, one or two photographs that carry it, and the rest of the room left calm.

The palette.

Start with the colours the look is built from: terracotta and ochre, white stone, Riviera blue, the dark green of shutters and cypress. Choose two for the room and let the photograph supply the third. Striped linen, rattan and pale oak carry the rest.

The living room.

A living room can take a beach. The Umbrella Committee and Cliffside Company look down on the Côte d’Azur, parasols in rows and swimmers in clear green water. Both are portrait, so hang them as a pair either side of a window or above a sideboard rather than one alone above a wide sofa.

The kitchen.

Kitchens suit the details of lunch and the places it happens. Under the Striped Awning, a café beneath the trees by Lake Como, and The Green-Striped Address, a market stall in Nice, belong where the cooking is. Under the Bougainvillea brings a burst of pink to a pale kitchen.

The hallway.

A hallway wants a view to walk towards, and the Croatian streets do this best. Down the Side Street draws the eye down the steps; The Red Shortcut puts one red scooter at the end of a stone passage. Three portrait photographs in identical frames, with identical gaps, turn a corridor into a promenade.

The bedroom.

Keep it quieter: water and space. A Cove of One’s Own, red rock above clear blue water on the Riviera, or Two in the Cove, two swimmers beneath a pale cliff, bring the sea in without the crowd.
